Aftercare

What is aftercare?

Scenes can be both physically and emotionally demanding and intense. Aftercare is simply the care and extra consideration, both physically and emotionally, that is given after a scene. It is also important to remember that aftercare is not just for bottoms, but can be for Tops as well. A Top experiences physical and emotional exertion just like a bottom and they may also desire additional attention.

Physical Aftercare:

Depending on the type of kinks that have been indulged in, there can be vast variety of physical after effects. The body might simply be tired and exerted, dehydrated, or it might even be bruised or the skin may be broken. This in combination with the comedown of the rush of endorphins can leave anyone feeling drained. Proper physical aftercare can ensure the physical needs of both partners are properly attended to.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, just a few things physical aftercare might include:

*Taking care of any minor medical issues, like disinfecting and bandaging any broken skin

*Something to drink (water or a beverage with electrolytes is usually a good choice) and/or eat

*Warmer clothes or a blanket

*A hot shower or bath

*A massage

*Cuddling

Emotional Aftercare:

A scene can be an emotional roller coaster that invokes a vast array of feelings all in a short amount (in the grand scheme of things) of time. Emotional aftercare helps ensure the emotional well being of both partners are getting attention.

These are just a few things that emotional aftercare might include:

*Discussing the scene

*Cuddling with your partner

*Spending time together

*Scene reassurance

*Meditation

Whether physical or emotional, aftercare comes in many forms and everyone has different needs. The only real rule of thumb when it comes to aftercare is to communicate, be open, and pay attention to the needs of your partner and yours as well.
